The first part of this assignment is to create a list of three to five things that frustrate you in communicating with the other gender. For at least one of these frustrations, explain what you think the cause is, and what you would do to improve the situation. For example, “My boyfriend never listens to me. He says he’s paying attention, but he’s always doing something else at the same time. It would help if he would put down his phone and look at me while I’m talking.”
The second part of the assignment is to respond to a post by a student of the other gender. Explain what you think is going on in that situation, and how you would improve the communication. Pull ideas from our text, as well as from your own experience. . Because there are a limited number of men in the class, this week I have not split the class into groups.
BOTH POSTS should reference concepts from the reading for this week. Chapters 7 and 9 discuss gender expectations for women and men, how the genders communicate among themselves and with each other, and how they express affection and power. You may relate back to Chapter 5 as well. Don’t just rely on your opinions.
