Pre-Assignment Instructions:
- To prepare you for this Assignment, read the summary from the module 11 content and follow the embedded learning activities.
Assignment Tasks:
For this Assignment, you will choose one piece from each of the course modules to connect to your own experience; these are the experiences that influence you as an Early Childhood Educator.
Keep in mind that your capacity for self-reflection will be a vital personal and professional quality that you need to have to be a good educator.
Your teaching reflection should be between 1000 and 1200 words in length. However, keep in mind it is the QUALITY of your WORK and NOT the LENGTH that will influence your final grade.
Your Teaching Reflection will include the following questions.
- Describe an experience that made you decide you wanted to work with young children. Review the corresponding module notes and explain which influencing philosophy connects to your experience. You could write about:
- a teacher or other person who positively influenced your decision to become an Early Childhood Educator. What, exactly, did that person do for you? Why did it matter so much?
- a particular experience from your childhood, either good or bad, that made you want to be an Early Childhood Educator? What happened, and why did this experience make you want to be a caring educator of young children?
- A particular situation in which you felt successful or unsuccessful as a learner. Why did that occur? How did you feel about the experience? Why did this influence your decision to enter the field of early childhood education?
- An experience you had working with an individual child or a group of children. What did you do that made a difference in the child(ren’s) life (lives)? What did you learn from this experience?
2. As a result of your experience and course learning, what do you believe about how young children learn and why do you believe this? Explain fully. Think about the following questions:
- What do children need in their early years to reach their potential?
- How does learning happen in pedagogy
- what can I do to promote positive growth and development in young children?
3. As a result of your experience and course learning, what do I believe about diversity in teaching young children? Explain fully. Think about the following questions:
- how will I reflect the individuality of a child and their family in my program?
- how can I incorporate multiculturalism into my program?
- what do I believe about concepts such as equality, individuality, freedom, and honesty related to teaching and learning?
4. As a result of your experience and discussion in module 8 about how to work with others, what personal qualities and abilities do you possess that will make you successful in working with young children? Explain fully. Think about such things as:
- effective communication
- collaboration
- enthusiasm and a positive outlook
- willingness to take constructive feedback and act upon it
- passion for becoming a teacher
- willingness to improve my effectiveness
- genuine interest in young children and their families
5. As a result of my experience and course learning, what do I want or need to learn about to become a more effective educator? How can the College of ECE support me in my learning? Explain both questions fully. Think about such things as:
- What do I want to learn more about?
- What skills do I need to develop?
- What behaviours do I need to adopt?
- What attitudes do I need to be aware of or may need to change?
