Question #1 (20 marks)

An employee, who recently joined a new company, was looking for a mode of transportation which has low-profile. Subsequently, he purchased a motorbike. Upon received, the superbike was in good condition, though, it was on-display at the showroom for a while. Hence, he was required to regularly perform basic services for the superbike. He followed a step-by-step procedure as follows. He usually began by having the engine oil changed. Technically it took 5 minutes for the oil to be completely drained. Next, he focused to work on the brakes. The maintenance requires for the replacement of the physical pads and the brake fluid. Armed with a socket set, hex keys, screwdrivers and pliers, he proceeded to change the brake calipers and the pads with a full-set of Brembo brakes, which he purchased via online. For fluid draining and bleeding, he utilized a bleeder kit. Overall, the procedure took 30 minutes to be completed. He subsequently inspected the air-filter. Since, he had allocated most of his budget on the brakes, he only physically dislodged some visible dirt appeared on the filter. This process only took 10 minutes. In order for the superbike to run efficiently, he changed the spark-plugs for the bike. This particular step took 20 minutes to finish. Upon changing the spark-plug, he also considered the desmodromic valve adjustment of the superbike. This dreaded job required 240 minutes from start to finish since there were 8 valves requiring exhaustive attention. But he decided to have the workshop to do it instead. For the last step in the basic maintenance, he took the liberty to properly lubricate all the necessary cables, moving parts and the chain. Since this step was more tedious, 60 minutes were spent. He continued with the next step to replace the tires to rubbers which more suited for off-road motorcycling. The process took him another 10 minutes. Finally, he ended the job with the last step by replacing the stock exhaust to a 120dB Termignoni carbon fiber exhaust of which he normally fired-up just before dawns every day. The installation took a rather hefty 60 minutes. Since he wanted to ensure that this procedure is completed in an organized and smooth execution, he had a mini assembly line installed at his farmhouse. It was known that the cycle time for each workstation was decided to be 60 minutes.
