Changing demographics of mosques is also discussed in detail as an increase in Somalian and Bosnian populations have also impacted mosque structures and population.
This source will beneficial to my research project when I am analyzing the community turnout problem. The Islamic Community Center of Laurel has also experienced a change in demographics over the past few years. Many south asian community members have been moving and establishing their own mosques. Through the use of the source, I can link the information to my project and determine how the overall changing demographics relate to the specific community I am looking at.
Jaweed Kaleem is an experienced reporter when it comes to religious affairs. Before becoming a Senior Religion Reporter at the Huffington Post, he was a religion reporter for the Miami Herald. “The IC Space.” Understanding How People React to Change | The IC Space, The IC Space, communication.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/ic-space/change-communications/understanding-how-people-react-to-change/.
The IC Space article discusses how people react to change. It talks about the different stages people go through as they deal with change. In order to help people deal with the change, managers and leaders must effectively communicate the different aspects of the change. This communication can be done through the 4PS of purpose, picture, plan, and part. Furthermore, identifying what stage of the change cycle people are on is extremely important. As a result, the leader will able to understand the individuals, while also helping them move along the change cycle.
The authors of this article are well qualified as they are working for the Government Communication Service. This organizations prides itself on teaching others about change, and how to effectively manage change. This source is extremely helpful for my research project. It helps me answer the question about what steps the leader of the mosque should take to effectively manage the change of leadership at ICCL. The source is mainly targeted toward managers and leaders who are dealing with change in their community. It helps them understand how people react to change, and what the leaders must do to help people throughout this change cycle.

The article mentions the importance of increasing engagement from individuals in order to help overcome the declining number of church attendance. Throughout the article, the author provides different suggestions and ideas on how to increase participation in religious services.
This source will help me when constructing recommendations for the mosque on how they can increase their own community turnout. I plan to implement some of the suggestions they provided into my own proposal to the mosque. For example, providing a clear path toward involvement is something the mosque can also do to help increase its community turnout.
Carey Nieuwhof is well qualified as he is an experienced expert in his field. Besides being a pastor of a major church, Carey has given speeches on church leadership, change, and other relevant topics relating to religion and community. Budeir, Mahir. “5 Ways to Tell If Your Mosque Is Successful or Just Growing.” Muslim Strategic Initiative, 12 May 2015, muslimsi.com/5-ways-to-tell-if-your-mosque-is-successful-or-just-growing/.
Maher Budeir discusses how mosques can properly and effectively evaluate themselves. In the article, he mentions different ways the Mosque can determine if it is running successfully or not. The importance of differentiating between being successful and just growing is discussed in great detail throughout the article. For example, the article asks if your mosque attract individuals who may not be active in the Muslim Community.
This question relates tremendously to my own research project. The Islamic Community Center of Laurel historically has not made a major effort to attract less active members of the community. By recommending this to the mosque in my proposal, ICCL will have another way to increase community turnout by actively trying to recruit these less active members in the community.
Maher Budeir’s expertise in this topic is extremely beneficial as he is apart of Balance Leadership Firm, which is a firm that helps nonprofit organizations reach their true potential. Maher Budeir’s main audience would be mosque community members of the country. Rather than just targeting mosque leaders, Maher provides suggestions any mosque community member can use in order to ensure their mosque is on its way to becoming successful.
