This project involves creating a picture on the co-ordinate plane and then converting the picture to equations of linear and non-linear functions. In addition, constraints on the domain will be required and must include transformations. The final set of equations and graph (picture) will be completed on Desmos.com. The equations and graph will be printed out and turned in prior to or on the due date given. A rubric is provided for your use. A sheet of graph paper will be provided for your original drawing.
Steps:
- Construct a drawing on the graph paper provided. (You should make copies of the graph paper in order to make changes as needed). You have the choice of making an original drawing or an original stained glass window. However, it must include whole or pieces of the required functions. You may use more than the required functions. Make a copy of your original drawing to be turned in to me, and keep the original to use for your project.
- Using Desmos.com, you will begin entering the equations in the program in order to “draw” the picture you created. As you see the graph evolve, you will need to “tweak” your equations, and set constraints on the domain.
- When your graph resembles your original drawing as closely as possible, you will shade your picture using inequalities with restrictions. Colors should not overlap one another, but be shaded within the designated area. Once finished, print a copy of the equations and the graph. This picture MUST BE PRINTED IN COLOR. If you do not have a color printer, you can save the data to an external drive and take it to Office Depot, Staples, etc and have it printed for a minimal fee. Do NOT wait until the due date to print. There are no color printers available for your use at RMA.
Due Dates:
March 18th: Final copy of original drawing on graph paper provided (coloring not required)
April 26th: COLOR printed copy of drawing from Desmos.com
Black and white printed copy of ALL equations with limits
*** Printed copy of equations must have the rubric requirements marked and highlighted:
Ex: L1 – L4 are your 4 lines, Q1 – Q4 are the 4 quadratics, C1 – C4 are the 4 cubics,
A1 – A4 are the 4 Absolute values, SR1 – SR3 are the 3 square root functions and Cir1
can represent the circle and E1 is the extra graph
When marking the 4 you wish me to check, make certain they are not repetitive.
This means the 4 lines must have different slopes. The equations you mark for me to
check MUST be different in some way, meaning the parent graphs must have different
shrink or stretch factors or vertex.
