My subject criteria was not listed as an option. The subject has to deal with Geology, not Geography
Consider the 2 scenario earthquakes: 1) Repeat of the 1906 magnitude 7.8 rupture on the San Andreas fault AND a 2)Repeat of the 1868 magnitude 6.8 rupture on the southern segment of the Hayward fault
Start working on the www.abag.ca.gov site. (ABAG)
The natural earthquake hazards you will investigate and write about are:
-SHAKING (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/mapsba.html)
-LIQUEFACTION and other ground effects (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/liquefac/liquefac.html – consider earthquake effects on your building (in san jose, ca) and on highways, streets, sewers near location
-RUPTURE (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/faults – alquist-priolo maps. Zoom way in. Are you in Alquist-priolo rupture zone? There are no eq(earthquakes) scenarios maps for this hazard)
–LANDSLIDE (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/landslide -No eq scenarios but are you at risk for eq induced landslides)
-TSUNAMI (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/tsunami- No) eq scenarios, but are you at risk for tsunami?
Carefully read the ABAG info for each hazard and then evaluate the hazards for the locations (near san jose, ca)
-First work on the shaking and liquefaction hazards for the first 2 scenarios (mentioned in the beginning), comparing them, and then analyze your susceptibility to rupture, landslide, liquefaction, and tsunami
-Do not need to cite ABAG sites in text, but do cite any other sources
Lastly, please submit word version for Microsoft 2003, NOT 2007. Thanks
