In a 10-page paper you will evaluate available evidence to address the question of whether the policies implemented by Joseph Stalin and the Soviet leadership in the 1930s made the Soviet Union stronger or weaker. You should focus more closely on one of the issues or policies that you learned about in the course, but you still need to tie your conclusion to this larger question.
Whatever your approach, your paper should address the ideological, political, and economic context, as well as the personal influence of Stalin and the rest of the Soviet leadership.
Your paper should incorporate a variety of primary and scholarly sources (at least 3 of each). You must annotate the evidence you rely on to make assertions and draw conclusions in properly formatted endnotes. Your analysis should explain why you attribute more value to some sources over others.
You must also include a properly formatted bibliography.

Citations of sources for quotations and borrowed ideas in your text should be indicated using endnotes in Chicago Manual-style.
The page number instructions assume an 8.5″ by 11″ page, 1″ margins, double-spaced text, and 12-point font.
