Our objective with this journal is to explore the art of acting by analyzing the performance of either Jodie Foster (Clarice Starling) or Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Hannibal Lecter) in The Silence of the Lambs. Your Journal entry should be structured in four short paragraphs (2-3 sentences each). Your chapter on Acting describes four criteria for analyzing acting (see section “Looking at Acting”):
- Appropriateness
- Inherent Thoughtfulness or Emotionality
- Expressive Coherence
- Wholeness and Unity
Using a paragraph for each of the criteria above, briefly describe the specific criteria/category of analysis (e.g. “Appropriateness”) in your words. Using your chosen actor (either Foster or Hopkins), give one clear example/observation of the actor’s performance in The Silence of the Lambs focusing on the specific criteria.
