effrey Dahmer
Between 1987 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer committed sixteen murders in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dahmer lured his first victim to his parents’ abandoned home and killed him in 1978, but it was several more years before his true spree started. In the late 1980s, Dahmer targeted gay males, people who often expect harassment from the police and who thus try to avoid contact with them. He began picking up young homosexual or bisexual men in gay bars, offering them money to pose for photos or inviting them to his house to watch movies and drink beer. He would then spike his victims’ drinks, and would either strangle or stab them to death. He lobotomized some of them before they died. Once they were dead, Dahmer would dismember them with a hacksaw, and often saved parts of their bodies to eat. Dahmer eventually admitted to the Milwaukee police that he had killed 16 people either in the city or in the nearby suburb. He was sentenced to serve 15 life terms in prison, but was murdered two years later by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver.
Your assignment is to consider Dahmer‘s behavior, i.e., serial murder, dismembering victims, and cannibalism. Using either a genetic or biochemical approach, write a 300-500 word response that provides plausible explanations for Dahmer‘s actions. Your answer should also identify what is not explained by that theoretical perspective.
