Database and Google Searches
In setting a precedence to my research, I conducted a detailed search for relevant resources. I sought these resources on two platforms; the school library and the Google database. The school library keeps a database of the complete comic books of the series. Using Google as a database, I recovered numerous works that contributed positively to my research process. Of these, I encountered numerous blog posts about various seasons of the series. Some of the blog posts with a deep analysis or a critique of the season.
Other Readings
A big part of my research focused on critic and fan reviews of the TV show, ‘The Walking Dead’ which appears on AMC. I found these reviews on Netflix.com. For critic reviews, rottentomatoes.com and metacritic.com were highly instrumental websites. Most critic reviews came at the end of the season and mainly focus on the way of presentation rather than the plot (Terry et al. 141). On the subject of the suitable age limit for the TV show, commonsencemedia.com was crucial. On this website, I found reviews about the TV show by young people who had watched it.
Frustrations
The volume of material in the library and even in the Google database was so huge, thus, making it hard to sort it. Further, most of my closest friends are fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ and not ‘The Walking Dead’ thus making it difficult for me to find real-time reviews. I also had language barrier challenges since I am a foreign student.
Insights
Throughout my research, I learned plenty about ‘The Walking Dead’ and TV shows in general. Being a fan of the series, I learned the value of reading the comics in understanding the film even more. I also discovered that other perspectives of watching the film; to understand a film better, one needs to look at more than just the plot or the storyline. Moreover, it is through my research that I learned that a TV show is more than just the entertainment it offers, it is something that can influence behaviors of those who follow it.
