Pediatric ENT Case Study
Keeping track of a kid’s health record is essential in giving both the ENT pediatrics and care givers an easy time taking care of kids (Stoner & Dulaurier, 2013). In addition to the already known medical history of Trevor, there is a need to know whether he possesses some allergies or is affected by any medication intake. Any known allergies, both nonprescription and prescription, should be recorded. As such, allergies may arise symptoms which may be linked to some diseases which might not be affecting the kid. Difficulty in breathing, swelling, and effect on skin tone and texture are some of the symptoms associated with allergies. Moreover, it is important to know whether the kid has side effects due to some medications. Some symptoms may be due to an effect of medications and not due to some of the already recorded conditions such as acute otitis media. Some medication cannot be taken together thus it is important for the pediatrician to be aware of both the prescription and nonprescription drugs that Trevor has already taken before administering new drugs (Stoner & Dulaurier, 2013). The number of hospitalizations and operations should also be recorded. In addition to this, pre-existing conditions affecting the health of the child should be made known to the pediatrician.
During Trevor’s health visit, milestones such as motor development, emotional development, and language development should be observed (Stoner & Dulaurier, 2013). The ability to move and follow simple instructions should be monitored, and communication through the use of language should also be assessed. Emotional development should be observed by assessing whether the temper tantrums exceed or decline. By the end of one year, infants should be able to imitate speech sounds. Moreover, they should be able to follow simple directions by at least turning and looking towards the direction of sounds. Therefore, Trevor language milestone does not match the normal limits. Language assessment such as imitating simple sounds and understanding simple instructions should be assessed. Finally, testing for other pre-existing conditions and illness are necessary for assessment of general health welfare of Trevor.
