Organization Behavior at Google Company

Google is an American international corporation that focusses in offering internet-based products and services. For instance, the company offers services such as advertising, search, cloud computing services, and other services that are internet based. Larry Page and Sergery Brin who were the PHD students of Stanford University, are the co-founders of Google Company and it was established it in September 4, 1998(Google Company 2016). The company’s headquarters are in Mountain view, California in the United States, with most of the cooperate activities being overseen by Sundar Pichai as the company’s CEO. Since the beginning, Google Company has focused on providing the best services and experience to its customers. Currently, Google Company is focusing on designing new internet browsers or new tweak that will change the out view of the company’s homepage (Google Company, 2016). The key purpose that has led Google Company to redesign its internet browser is because, the company want to ensure that it ultimately serve its clients in the most effective way. Eskesen (n.d) says that the Google has also over the years maintained its mission of creating products that makes the world an easier place for individuals who want to find what they search on the web.

Therefore, with Google aiming at serving its customers appropriately and in an efficacy way, in the modern technological world, the company has gained a strong popularity globally. In fact, the Google has integrated into the world culture, as many people the word Google as a communication verb. Eskesen (n.d) asserts that the success of Google Company is linked with the corporate behavior, with the organization’s structure, culture, politics, and management being the key areas that are supporting the excellence innovation of Google. As such, Google does not have an organizational structure that is conventional, and the company does not endorse a working culture that is not typical since the company believes that its success is based on change and direct links to the organization itself. Organization behavior (OB) is a systematic approach, in which organizations apply knowledge concerning how individuals and groups do act or may act within the organization (Bauer & Erdogan 2012). To understand the concept organization behavior, this paper focuses an analyzing Google Company in terms of the its culture, structure, human resources, and politics.

Eskesen (n.d) reveals that for Google Company to be alert of the future challenges and maintain its competitive advantages, the company works with a culture that is intangible and a culture that cannot be copied easily by its competitors. According to Google Company (2016), it is apparent that the company believes that that it is the people who make the people the company be the way it is and maintain its current position. For the company to ensure that the aspect of culture is not a challenge to its performance, Google strive to maintain an open culture that is often associated with startup key, in which its client can feel comfortable sharing their ideas and viewpoints. As part of the company’s culture, the company has set weekly meetings (“TGIF”) whereby Googlers/customers ask the company’s owners and other executive members about any trending company issue (Google Company, 2016). Eskesen (n.d), found out that organizational culture is important matters that may at some time look difficult to work with, Google use its culture to gain a competitive edge. More so, the company use culture to ensure that a company attracts the best employees, make sure that the company operates with an effective workforce, and further innovations where it gain increased profits and overcome various challenges that are concerned with the employees. With this fact concerning Google Company, it is clear that in the modern organizations, culture is one of the aspect that used to manage concrete challenges with the corporate cultural initiatives being shaped to fulfill the needs and requirements of the organization.

Bauer & Erdogan (2012) says that organization structure is another component of organization behavior within the organization. At Google, organizational structure refers to the way work of the individuals, groups, and teams is coordinated within the organization. With Google being one of the dedicated company to its clients, the company views its structure as a valuable tool that they use to achieve coordination, defines internal communication, and to separate the different type of actions that are carried out within the organization (Bauer & Erdogan 2012). For Google to attain its objectives and goals, the company is organized just like other companies (Savoia & Copeland n.d.). As such, the Company uses functional form of organizational structure, with Google basing its business activities to grouping employees. Savoia & Copeland (n.d.) outlines that the company has a functional form of organizational structure with the group of employees including departments such as engineering, finance, human resources, sales, and product management group. Within each division, there are directors, vice presidents, managers, project leaders, and other employees such as the assistants. This means that Google depends on a group of employees who work with the objective of fulfilling the company’s goal, especially when it comes to cases of making decisions, assessing, and launching activities.

The other significant aspect of Google regarding its organization behavior is the issue of the human resource. Eskesen (n.d) point out that Google Company uses its supportive culture to hire the best group employees who are set to deliver their best for the company to achieve its goals and objectives. With the employees that are hired at Google holding effective qualification, the company even encourages the group of workers who are assigned to different task within the organization to take the risks. For example, the HR encourages Google employees who work in the engineering department to devote 20% of their time to the organization projects, so that they can come up with projects of their own (Eskesen n.d). This implies that Google is one of the best place to work for the employees who have innovation ideas and who need support from their employers to bring out their ideas on the desk.

From the viewpoint of the employees’ behavior in the organization, it is apparent that power is another factor that influences the behavior of the people within the organizations (Eskesen n.d). Power refers to the ability that one has and use it to get things done the way he or she wants them to be carried out. It is the responsibility of the people in power to come up with effective management decisions, such as budget allocations, distributions of tasks, and rank the employees according to their task achievements. At Google, the company’s CEO and the company founders distribute power that is intended at influencing the performance of the employees and attain the company’s goal (Google Company 2016). The Google Company owners and the CEO align the entire organization to move together with the intention of making the company to achieve its objectives in the best way possible.

Conclusion

Indeed, from the analyses of Google Company in terms of the organization behavior it is evident that OB is an integral part in the modern organizations. As such from the analyses of the key elements that are related to organization behavior, it is noted that the organization behaviors at Google have a high impact on the enterprise and the management of the company. Lastly, with the company showing its effort of serving a lot of people globally, through power distribution, well set human resources department, and the supportive Google organizational culture, since its foundation in 1998, the company have grown to serve millions of people across the world.

Recommendations

The discussion show how Google is striving for success through organization behaviors that are based on different organization elements. Therefore, with the understanding of the way Google is structured, how the company use its power to influence the employees, Google organizational culture, and the important of having a strong HR acquisition, it is recommended that Google need to continue with its current set of organization behaviors. The reasons why the company needs to maintain its corporate behaviors is that the set-up of the Google OB gives the company the support it needs to preserve its high profile services, establish new goals, and accomplish its general objectives.
