Prompt: Include a thesis
In his Present Age, Kierkegaard draws a distinction between an age of passion and an
age of reason. Briefly, yet carefully, explain what distinguishes the two ages. Don’t
forget to support your arguments with textual evidence. Then, drawing on examples
taken from contemporary culture, argue whether today (in the ‘present age) we live in
an age of passion, or in an age of reason. Or do we live in neither? Or in both?
[To begin, you could ask, for instance: what role does “the press” play today? And
what about new forms of media such as the Internet? Or other forms of
communication, technology, entertainment, etc.]
