Instructions and Rubric
This assignment is a recorded video. In part 1 of the video use presentation slides to summarize the Case Conceptualization and Action plan from Assignments #1 and #2. Choose an intervention skill/technique from the evidence informed intervention from the Action Plan for Assignment #2, describe the skill/technique. In part 2 role-play the application of the intervention skill/technique. In part 3 reflect on skills to manage biases, privilege and power when choosing and implementing action plans.
Part 1: Case Presentation & Skill Description (5-7 minutes)
- Using presentation slides, summarize the client case conceptualization and action plans including the evidence informed intervention from Assignments #1 and #2
- Review the potential barriers for engagement
- Review client strengths
- Provide a very brief explanation of the client problem, emotion, thought, symptom, or behavior that will be addressed in the role-play
- Identify, define and describe a clinically appropriate skill/technique from the evidenced informed intervention that will be demonstrated in the role-play
- Only identify a skill/technique from a middle stage of the evidence informed intervention. Do not apply engagement, assessment or termination skills in this assignment
- Integrate literature
Part 2: Skill Demonstration and Application (5-7 minutes)
- Demonstrate the skill/technique by applying and/or teaching it to the client via a role-play; use a class mate (preferred), colleague, family member, or friend (not the actual client) to role-play
- Show correct understanding and mastery of the technique/skill via application with the client
- Show how to address a potential challenge or misunderstandings the client raises during or after the skill/technique is implemented/taught
Part 3: Reflection (2-3 minutes)
Reflect on your practice when using the demonstrated skills/techniques, consider concepts of imposter syndrome, cultural humility, attunement, professional use of self, power, bias, privilege, acknowledging clients as experts of their own lived experiences, boundaries, and awareness of organizational and community context.
APA Format, Writing Quality & Administrative Requirements
- Overall video length should be 12-17 minutes (minus .5 point for each minute long or short)
- Presentation slides should have citations for the text, and include a reference slide in APA format
- A minimum of 3 references is required.
- Class lectures and PowerPoints should not be referenced
- Writing and speaking style includes proper grammar, syntax, sentence structure, and spelling
- Writing and speaking includes clarity of concepts and ideas (articulation), ability to clearly articulate mastery of the clinical concepts, theory and interventions as well as integration of the required readings and/or recommended readings and independent research
- No late submissions accepted without prior approval; even with approval, a deduction for late submission may be applied.
