Text & Template assignment + peer-sharing & critique: worth a possible 50 points
Instructions: Chose a topic from among those listed below. Based on your chosen topic, you will create three four-slide sample presentations using three different slide presentation software options (submit twelve slides total). Select two of your three presentation software options from the choices below.
Slide Software Options (choose two from among the following):
PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote
For your third software presentation option, research alternate cloud-based slide apps online and select one on your own. There are paid, free, and free trial options available so do not feel obligated to pay for your cloud-based choice of software. In any case, Your third software platform cannot be from one of the three options above. Also, you must customize each of your three chosen templates in such a way as to visually support or enhance your particular topic. Use the same topic for all three of your four-slide slide decks.
Topic Choices (you must choose one of these):
- What it’s like to be an MSU Student-Athlete
- Semester-At-Sea program
- The History of Five Points
- Budgeting with Microsoft Excel
- Cinco de Mayo
- Our Disappearing Rain Forests
- Thalidomide
- La Cosa Nostra
- Backpacking in the Rockies
- The Impact of Social Media on Society
- Mesa Verde National Park
- Life as a DACA Recipient
- American Fashion Trends from the Roaring Twenties
The four slide sample types for each of your three templates must consist of:
Slide 1: Title slide (may include an image as appropriate)
Slide 2: Bulleted text-only slide with sub header
Slide 3: Text and photo slide (You may provide the photo, or you may use a Google image)
Slide 4: Data/statistics/graphics slide (visual clarity and understanding of the data is of primary importance). Do not copy and paste infographics from the Internet. You must either work off a template slide or design your own data-centric slide. Either find or make up some data that would be meaningful to your chosen topic.
The title slide must show the actual, authentic title of your presentation. Put your new-found knowledge to use by coming up with an enticing title! In other words, don’t simply use the topic listed above in your title slide. For bulleted text, find or make up some relevant talking points for your text items. The primary intent of the assignment is for you to appropriately choose a template and typeface that supports your chosen topic.
Canvas Deliverables:
Once you build and save your three slide decks, export each into a separate PDF document. Label each PDF file with your last name, followed by the name of your presentation, followed by the software platform you used to create it. Include a separator for each component of the file name. Ex: Hammond|Thalidomide|Canva.pdf
You should have a total of three .pdf files, each indicating a different software postform as described above. Once you have those:
- In the Text and Template discussion forum, introduce yourself, your topic, the names of your three software presentation platforms, along with what your thought process was when considering different template and software options. Also, attach your three files to your post so others can evaluate and critique your work.
- As part of your score, each of you must view the work of at least three of your classmates and reply to their posts with meaningful, constructive feedback.
There will be a ‘Text & Template’ discussion forum for you to comment and share your files. All deliverables due in the discussion forum on Canvas. Scores will be displayed in a separate assignment portal in Canvas.
