GUIDELINES FOR ORGANIZATIONAL ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT
After reviewing the keynote and studying the readings for Module 2 and Module 3, you should
now be ready to proceed with your assignment. In this assignment, you will conduct a remote
organizational analysis based on what you have learned from the readings in this unit.
Choose an organization from the following list of Magnet designated facilities where you
have not worked and do not have personal knowledge of the organization:

Please note: You will use the same organization that you select for the organizational analysis
paper AND the quality improvement paper. Due to the number of students enrolled in the
multiple sections of NU 613, we respectfully ask that you do not make direct contact with the
facility. Use the information available to the public online to complete your assessment.
All assignments are to be submitted electronically within the course. Because the faculty receive
many of the same assignments a file naming format is established for all student submissions.
The file naming standard is as follows:
File naming standard: Student’s Last name, First name, Class Number with section, and
Assignment Name. For example, Doe-Jane-NU613.801-Organizational Analysis Paper
Please submit your paper as a pdf document.
Your paper will automatically be submitted to Turnitin when you submit the assignment. You
can review and revise the paper and resubmit it based on any identified concerns in the Turnitin
report until the due date. Caution: Papers resubmitted after the due date will be treated as late
papers and the late penalty described in the syllabus will apply. Submit the assignment at least 48
to 72 hours before the due date to ensure time to obtain the Turnitin report back. Extensions will
NOT be granted if you wait to the last minute to submit an assignment or do not receive a report
back in time for revisions.
Early grading: Faculty may be available to grade the paper before the due date if you have
completed your review of the Turnitin report. If your submission is ready for grading prior to the
due date, please place a comment in the assignment area that the submission is final and ready
for grading.
Scholarship Expectations:
The assignment will be formatted based on the APA7th edition. There will be a title page
and headings used appropriately. Clarity and conciseness in writing, grammar and spelling
will be consistent with graduate level work.
You are clinical nurse scholars in the making. You are the nurses with advanced
education/DNPs and members of the highly literate profession of advanced practice
nursing who will chart the future of health care. Good writing ability is as much a required
skill for nurses in advanced practice as performing clinical functions. Therefore, precision
and scholarship is expected in all assignments.

Organizational Analysis Rubric Points
Introduction paragraph (one paragraph). There must be a thesis statement
at the end of the paragraph that tellsthe reader the purpose of paper and
what will be discussed.

Establish healthcare organizations in the 21st century as complex adaptive
systems (Wheatley, Plesk & Greenhalgh, Deming). What does a leader need
to understand about change in a CAS? Discuss the leadership challenges of
transformation of complex systems.

Introducing the Organization
Identify an organization you selected for review from the Magnet list.
Review the organization’s website.
Provide a basic introduction to the organization. Give an overall description
the mission, values and community work of the organization. Describe the
size of the organization.

Is the organization a for-profit or not -for profit-structure? Evaluate the
Community Needs assessment for the facility and/or the annual report or
if the organization is a for-profit, the annual report for shareholders. What
opportunities for the future work of the organization are identified?

Culture: Examine the organizations human resources information as well as
any literature describing the organization. Looks at available newsletters, ads,
or pictures. Describe the observable culture of the organization based on
Edgar Schein’s model:1 point: Describe the observed organization’s culture
using Schein’s definition of culture:
1 point Describe the artifacts, espoused values and assumptions that you
are able to assess without visiting the facility
1 point Explain the meaning of the statement Culture Eats Strategy for
Breakfast (Drucker, 2006).

it. Starting January 1, 2021, each hospital operating in the United States will
be required to provide clear, accessible pricing information online about the

in a consumer-friendly format.
Can you find the transparent cost of a hospital item on the hospital’s website?
