In order to keep projects on track with timelines, instructional designers must be agile in managing multi-stage, complex projects. Even within the formative evaluation stage, instructional designers juggle several tasks. For example, they are interacting with learners and delivering instruction, while also taking notes throughout the instructional experience. They pay attention to what is working well within the instruction, what is confusing the learners, and what is requiring additional development. Additionally, the designers are identifying areas of improvement, many actionable insights stem from initial deliveries of new instruction, and instructional designers must be attentive to identify these revealing moments.
In this topic, data collection should continue and preparations for data analysis should be undertaken. While the data collection is underway, it is an ideal time to reflect on how the formative evaluation experience ties into the professional activities of this course and work on the culminating portfolio.
Conclude your two-week delivery of the instructional solution and collection of data to evaluate the solution. You should be keeping detailed notes of your evaluation experiences, what has been going well, and what you have been struggling with and learning. Reflect on your overall experience and review your journal entries over the past two weeks. Consider jotting down patterns or themes that you notice across your various entries.
Then, in a 1000 word essay, reflect on your experiences. Address the following questions to guide your reflection paper and describe any noteworthy insights that emerged from your reflections.
- What have been your main takeaways (e.g., Was the solution effective? Why or why not?) from your instructional solution implementation and data collection interactions and tasks? Make sure to spend time describing what you experienced and learned both weeks of the evaluation process. For example, if your firs
- t attempt to deliver your instructional solution was unsuccessful and had to be rescheduled, capture that experience. Share what you learned from your challenges in Week 3 and how you overcame those difficulties in Week 4.
- What new insights regarding the evaluation process have you discovered?
- What professional experiences and new skills from this evaluation experience will you build into your portfolio?
Submit your paper and proof of implementation, such as a data file and/or log. Ensure your data has been cleaned up, with no identifiers, so it is appropriate to share with clients.
Use 3-5 scholarly resources to support your explanations.
