Use the questions in the Procedural Process and the Triple Play Approach to guide
your decision-making.
PROCEDURAL PROCESS | to assist with the decision
Answer all questions/suggestions except for #10 & #13, which are personal.
1. Identify the correct problem to solve.
2. List all pertinent information.
3. Explore codes of conduct, training rules, precedence, etc. Any relevance to
the dilemma?
4. Examine your own personal values and beliefs and discuss how they are
affected by the dilemma.
5. Consult with peers or other individuals of authority/experience in the
industry. Who would you consult?
6. What are the consequences of not making a decision?
7. List decision options.
8. Look for a “win-win” situation if at all possible that complements the triple
play approach. What is the “win-win” decision? Please note that this
decision may differ from your final decision.
9. Answer the question, “How would my family feel if my decision, and how and
why I arrived at it, were made public?
10. Pre-Decision: pray for guidance/wisdom.

11. Sleep on it.
12. Make the best decision possible, based on the Triple Play Approach and the
above questions/suggestions, realizing that it may not be perfect.
13. Post-Decision: pray for courage/conviction.
TRIPLE PLAY APPROACH | to assist in solving ethical dilemmas
Apply all three tests and explain your answers in specific detail
1. Test of Intentions
a. Was the issue (or action) that caused the dilemma voluntary?
b. What was the motivation for the individuals involved in the issue (or
action) that caused the dilemma?
c. Are there extenuating circumstances?
2. Test of Universalizability
a. Can you apply consistency with your decision in all identical
situations, involving others, despite the consequences of your
decision?
3. Test of Utilitarianism
a. Does your decision result in the greatest good for the greatest
number of people?
