- Compare mainstream US environmentalism with much of environmentalism in the global South (environmentalism of the poor). First, provide an overview of the US environmental movement. In particular, identify the key characteristics of mainstream environmentalism, which is the dominant form of environmentalism in the United States. Second, describe the key differences between environmental movements in the Global North (an ecology of affluence) and the Global South (an environmentalism of the poor). What are the cultural, political, ecological, and economic factors shaping these differences? Third, discuss the possibilities and limitations of cooperation between environmental advocacy organizations in the global north and south.
