Vocational Scenario or Context  You are working as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in a local GP practice, as part of your role you must provide advice and information to other healthcare professionals. Your manager has asked you to create a training package for the practice so that healthcare professionals and other trainee pharmacy technicians can use for reference.  This Learning Outcome 3 is Task 3 of 3 tasks for Unit 16.    
    Task 3  A pharmacy professional will make use of many standard pharmacy resources to research pharmaceutical queries to ensure that responses are accurate and appropriate for the customer be that a patient or another Health Care Professional. For your final resource, your line manager wants you to produce a resources compendium in the format of your choice (e.g. booklet, presentation and notes, technical information poster etc.) which  evaluates the suitability of different sources of pharmaceutical information used to  answer pharmaceutical queries within the workplace. This resource will be accompanied by a written report which explains the importance of evidence-based practice for pharmacy professionals. Specific detail is provided below and all aspects of the guidance must be addressed.   The suitability of different sources of pharmaceutical information for pharmaceutical queries The resources compendium will need to include an evaluation of information found in pharmaceutical texts such as the: British National Formulary, Martindale, British Pharmacopeia, Pharmaceutical Codex, Pharmaceutical Journal, Medical journals etc. Online resources e.g. eBNF, Micromedex, Medline etc. For each resource named you must include the suitability, advantages and limitations in using the resource to answer specific examples of pharmaceutical queries.   The importance of evidence-based practice for pharmacy professionals Your report must also provide a detailed explanation of the likely impacts of the use of evidence-based practice by pharmacy professionals, giving reasons, examples and/or evidence to support the points made and coming to a conclusion as to how important evidence-based practice is for pharmacy professionals.
