Today, it proves difficult for many to imagine a war breaking out between powers like France, Germany, and Britain in Western Europe. This is significant considering that war between European powers was a feature of international affairs since the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. Liberalism in IR has sought to explain the pacific nature of international politics that is not predicted by realists who base their theory on the existence of a constant war of all against all. In this essay response, use theory devised by liberals in international politics to account for the lack of war, or the lack even of the threat of war, in Western Europe. In doing this you should rely chiefly on the theorists and concepts we have discussed in our lectures. Be careful that you are using liberal concepts and not realist ones.
Your essay should be approximately 2000 words long and should attempt to incorporate a wide range of liberal concepts from the lectures and explain them in as much depth as you can. Use this as a way to show all that you have taken from the lectures.
