explanations of crime from the earliest civilizations, through our current era. In your response, include the
major perspectives on criminal behavior.
Question Group 2:
Summarize law enforcement use of force and the current legal position regarding deadly force. Include in
your response a discussion of the landmark cases that altered police use of force, and describe the
continuum of force.
In your own words, summarize the legal restraints placed on law enforcement and the procedures that law
enforcement must follow for searching property of a citizen. Include in your response some of the key
court decisions and summarize landmark cases as they fit into your response.

Explain the role of sentencing guidelines in a judge’s decision-making process for defendants who either
plead guilty or are found guilty.
Summarize the due process rights of a defendant from arrest through the trial process. Discuss what

resolving a case. Discuss some of the major issues and landmark cases on this topic.

1. Summarize the development of early American corrections. What were distinctions between the major systems?
2. Describe the difference between a jail, a state prison, and a penitentiary. Use examples, historical information, or any other examples to enhance your response.

responding to terrorism under the Department of Homeland Security. Explain some of the constitutional
challenges and controversies that are part of the DHS mission.
