The representation of women in Italian neorealist cinema after the Second World War
A 2,000-word research essay which must in some way involve the analysis of the movie “La Ciocara”(1960) by Vittorio De Sica in relation to the specific contexts of its production, distribution, and/or exhibition.
It is necessary to analyse the film but above all how the woman of the time was represented, using as a reference the film “la Ciociara” but also the films “Bicycle Thieves” and “Rome Open City”.
Expressing the hidden role of women in the post-war period and how neorealist cinema tells it.
Women who live in the anonymity of the tragedy of the Second World War, women who suffer mass rape and fight for their survival and that of their loved ones-
telling how cinema reproduces this condition of life even if little and use academic articles in addition to films as a reference.
Comparing the different female protagonists of the period but focusing in the first place on Sophia Loren in the “Ciociara”.
