3.2 Week Three Discussion
After completing this week’s readings, select the title of this week’s discussion assignment to compose your response. Your initial response should address the following issues:
A very important skill in data analysis is the ability to take a client’s discussion of an issue or problem and develop the correct analysis design. These critical steps are defined in Steps 1a and 1b in the Six Step Process.
Based on your readings (and research):
Given the information provided by the client, how does one determine if the correct test to use is a 1-tailed or a 2-tailed test? How does this decision impact the formation of the null and alternate hypotheses?
Provide one example of either type of test (either a 1-tailed or a 2-tailed example). Do not use any examples used in class or provided in our study materials.
Finally, discuss what one would expect to gain (in terms of information) that was useful / beneficial to the client. That is, did the results of the test help to solve the client’s issue / problem?
4.2 Week Four Discussion
After completing this week’s readings, select the title of this week’s discussion assignment to compose your response. Your initial response should address the following issues:
One of the concepts presented in the Week Four Study Guide was the idea of Independent versus Dependent (or Paired) samples. Based on this week’s study of 2-sample Hypothesis Testing, please discuss the following issues.
Provide a definition of Independent versus Dependent samples, and then discuss the key differences that you would use to determine if the two samples were independent or dependent.
Give an example (not in the SG or text) of a scenario where you would advise your client to use a “Paired” sampling procedure.
Finally, how do you know if you should select a 2-tailed or a 1-tailed test
5.2 Week Five Discussion
One of the issues presented in the Week 4 & 5 Study Guides was the difference between correlation analysis and regression analysis. Based on your study of both concepts, compose an initial response to discuss the following issues.
What is the real difference between correlation analysis and regression analysis? Please use examples to illustrate your discussion.
Based on the data collected by the sales manager in the Copier case, it appears that she would have some difficulty predicting the sales based on only sales calls – especially at some levels of sales calls. For example, if one of her salespeople made between 70 and 80 calls, would she be able to predict a certain number of sales? Would it be easier to predict a range of sales? If yes, what would that range be? Hint: Review the Chapter 13 PPT slides #18-27 for more information.
