You will be writing an essay exploring the place for negative advertising in political campaigns.
Directions
In a 1-2 page essay, describe if and where there is a place for negative advertising in campaigns. Your assignment should ultimately focus on the role of negative advertising in campaigns and address the context of truth, accuracy, fairness and your interpretation of the implications for such in ads.
I’m not asking for a history, nor for the sort of apologia we found in Goodman, Stone, et al. Rather, start from this question: If you were to be scrupulous about “truth, accuracy, fairness, and context,” would this force you away from negative ads—of all kinds, some kinds, what kinds?
