One of the biggest debate topics in U.S. History is the theory of how much power should the federal government possess. This debate had started with the ratification of the Constitution all the way to today when thinking about what powers are given to the states instead of the Federal Government.
The big question you must answer writing this essay is: which portion of government should be more powerful? State or Central government? You have 3 choices to pick, are you for state government, federal government or both should be equally powerful.
When making your choice you must not only provide evidence of the positives of your selection but must provide the negatives of the opposing side. If you choose to write about both you can state, the positive and negatives of having the powers being equal. The evidence you provide must be linked to your original argument. Provide examples of instances in history that prove your point as well. In your concluding paragraph, you must tie in all your information while also providing your final opinion or verdict on the subject.
All information taken from a website, article, book or other source must be cited using MLA format with a citation page. You will be graded on the effectiveness of your argument, the evidence used in connecting your argument, the presence of the opposing view, and lastly the clarity of your conclusion.
