For this assignment, you should write about the role of thinking in the play Hamlet. Specifically, I\’d like you to address two questions. The first question is, \”what does Hamlet\’s excessive thinking cost him?\” When I say \”excessive thinking\” here, I just mean his tendency to avoid doing things in favor of thinking about them–going over all the ins and outs, and so on. The second question is, \”what does Hamlet gain by dwelling in thought?\” These questions really aren\’t asking you to make contrary claims, they\’re just asking you to think about the whole picture in Hamlet, which is both a tragedy and a complex portrait of a beautiful (and troubled) mind.
