Calculating weight and balance of an aircraft can be a complex process. Passenger and baggage loading along with the amount and location of fuel onboard the aircraft are all factors that must be taken into account. While it is a very important part of conducting safe flight, the weight and balance is only one item on a long list of duties required of flight crews. Additionally, the stresses of maintaining a schedule, dealing with inclement weather and its consequences, and interacting with passengers can adversely affect the presence of mind necessary to accurately perform these calculations.
