Laureate
Laureate
Laureate Online Education is “the largest network of for-profit higher education institutions.” Operating out of Baltimore, Maryland, and through six segments worldwide, the company operates more than 200 programs of online and campus-based college and university programs in nearly 30 countries. Its online learning services work through its various institutions that serve more than 1 million students. It works, technically, as an e-business system that allows its users and customers to be served through an online capacity and in regard to obtaining higher education, either undergraduate or graduate, this creates opportunities for the non-traditional student, i.e, working adults with children or students who are older in age or the person who would prefer to obtain an education without paying the costs of campus life such as textbooks, tuition, and student living (especially off-campus).
Laureate Online Education is a fine example of how e-businesses are run in a particular industry. An e-business system like Laureate Online Education provides a service, but it is not “sold” and “bought” in the way that most people view e-businesses and. As the online site works primarily through student access aside from learning about and selecting colleges, the interface is user-based with a certain level of access that only comes with being a student. On the other hand, an e-business website about commerce and selling products and services is often not exclusive. It is a good company to research e-business systems within the higher education sector, especially concerning the complexity of for-profit education systems.
