Specific Content Objectives: The Digestive System
1. Describe and explain, making use of illustrations, the structure and function of the digestive system in adults and children.
2. Analyze the gastrointestinal tract function.
3. Identify and discuss different alterations in the digestive system in adults and children.
4. Increase knowledge and skills on the assessment and treatment of different digestive system disorders.
5. Distinguish between disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, disorders of the accessory organs of digestion, and disorders of the liver.
6. Recognize the etiology and pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and treatment of cancer of the digestive system.
7. Discuss and analyze the role of the Nurse Practitioner, with a focus on prevention, early detection and treatment of digestive system disorders.
Specific Language Objectives
: 1. Listening: After listening to the facilitator’s discussion on the structure and function of the digestive system in adults and children, share in class the most important key points.
2. Speaking: Prepare to share during group discussions different disorders of the digestive system, clearly pronouncing appropriate English language.
3. Reading: After examining different databases for Nurse Practitioners, write a paper analyzing the role of the Nurse Practitioner in the prevention, early detection and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders following the rubric criteria and APA guidelines.
4. Writing: Identify and explain in writing the clinical manifestations of at least six alterations of digestive function in adults, older adults and children (two of each).
