Organizational Well-Being (CIPD)
According to the CIPD, which is the chartered institute of personnel and development, well being within the organization is to offer a comfortable and relaxed environment that helps to satisfy employees’ physical and mental health. While allowing them to flourish and achieve their full potential (2016). Therefore, making them work more efficiently and effectively which enhances the productivity. Well being not only develop the employees’ potential, it also offers benefits to the organization (CIPD, 2016).
In SECI model, socialization and externalization processes in creating and sharing knowledge (Easa, 2012).
Socialization
Socialization process converts existing tacit knowledge into new tacit knowledge through face-to-face discussions of share experiences (Easa, 2012, 28, 191), learn by observing, imitating and practicing which take place through social interactions, or become ’’socialized’’ into a specific way of doing things, like learn from mentors and peers. Knowledge is not explicit in this stage. For examples, our group attended for lectures and seminars so that we expand our knowledge and learn from tutors. We can also learn knowledge from other team members within the group meetings, know about diverse culture and custom, different ways of thinking.
Externalization
Externalization is the process of converting tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge (cited in Easa, 2012, 44) by using some expression skills. Like record discussions, descriptions and innovations in a manual and then use the content to create a new product. For example, after we research individually, during the meeting we then discuss our own opinions, share ideas and information together in order to reach a consensus when doing this module task. This transforming process from individual knowledge to group is a form of knowledge donating which can increase the stock of knowledge (cited in Easa, 2012, 66).
Our group challenges include:
- Language barriers
We have 5 international group members, with 5 different levels of understand in regards to the English language. We sometimes struggle to understand certain tasks that may even be simple.
- Poor communication
The language barriers are the main reason for the poor communication within the group, we didn’t know each other at the beginning and everyone was too shy to express their ideas for the project.
- Different level of understanding task, module
Even when a task was explained clearly, we may still not understand 100%.
- Understanding well-being of every members
The group members have the different levels understanding of well being in this group, everyone need know each other and their thoughts. Communicate carefully to keep the solidarity of the team.
- Lack of participation
Our division of work was not clear at the beginning that leads low participation. Sometimes during our meetings, motivation and group moral was lacking which also affected our participation. This affected the group’s efficiency and productivity resulting to a less tasks being completed during certain meetings.
- Lack of creativity
During the process of creating the website and this presentation, it quickly became apparent that our group lacked the creativity needed to stand out, meaning as group collectively, we would struggle and therefore needed to put more hours into this project.
- Lack of Adobe Spark skills
Everybody in our group was using adobe spark for the first time, this was a new platform for our group and therefore the skills required to use the service were very limited, as we the features provided. We therefore needed to quickly pick up the skills needed during the process of creating the website.
- Different Talents and Personalities
As a diversity group, each group member with different culture have mastery of knowledge and personalities, it takes time to let us know each other better.
