In this study, the focus is on a middle-sized hospital, called Christ Community Health Service (Christ Community Health Service, 2017). At the center, workers who commute by cars or ones who have vehicle rely on employer-provided parking. The organization has also set a parking site for patients, but due to the increased number of the visitors, the current space is not enough. In turn, it is jeopardizing the work of the medical facility , as some of the clients are opting to go to neighboring healthcare providers with adequate and well-designed parking. For this reason, it is the right time for the Christ Community Health Service’s  leaders to become vigilant, as the issue of parking problem is likely to impair the reputation of the premises, which will lead to losing of valuable customers. According to Osoba (2012), one of the causes of the parking problem in medium-sized private businesses is the pattern of land. The location  where Christ Community is situated has been eroded by the construction of the various building, which has made it difficult for the hospital to have a conventional and adequate parking space. In other words, the organization does not have an off-site parking in which patients visiting the hospital can park their car at the off-lots location if there is no space on the main site. NHS Estates (2005) reveals that it is essential for businesses to ensure that they have an off-site parking location so that users traveling to the firm can use the site for parking purposes in the case whereby the central parking site if fully occupied. Thus, it is noted that at Christ Community Health Service, the free parking area needed to be expanded by all means possible, as well as be appropriately organized, so that the spot can achieve its intended objecti ve.

The findings presented in this paper were based on the research that focused on identifying the best practices and strategies that the Community Health clinic can use to escalate the parking space that will benefit the organization, its stakeholders, and clients. Research Methodology

 

The investigator applied both the interview and observation method of data collection. It was essential to use interview technique to collect the information as through the model,  the views, experience, and beliefs of the participant were explored (Gill et al., 2008). The respondents who were involved in this research included the patients visiting the Christ Community Health Center, the staffs working in the institution, the administrators, and the people who own the facility. The queries that were presented to the interviewee were designed to ask imperative questions that were set to yield relevant information concerning the parking lots at the institution. Moreover, employing observation method in this study was substantial becauase the technique gave the surveyor an opportunity to understand a particular phenomenon from the view of the way different actors would respond to various situations (Iacono, Brown, & Holtham, 2009). In this scheme, different situations were observed, while   taking notes and recording what was being witnessed. Clearly, the researcher used the two methods because they are cost efficient and highly reliable in cases of an  investigation that needs evidence and factual support.

 

The data was obtained from the hospital’s daytime workers. For reliable information, the investigator interviewed 100 staffs and 50 patients who visit the institution frequently. The researcher has observed that the hospital has 80 parking lots, of which 20 are reserved for workers, 20 for both employees and patients or visitors, 25 for visitors/ patients, and 15 for people who are physically challenged. It showed that at the Christ Community Health Center, there are  maximally 40 parking spaces available to employees, a number that is not enough for the staffs working at the premises. From the findings, it was noted that the workers occupy the space that is established to be used by the patients because they tend to arrive before the patients and visitors. In this context, the parking lots constrained for the people seeking medical services are insufficient;   hence, the researcher came up with several recommendations that will help the organization solve the problem.

 

Conclusion

This study presents significant findings on the aspect of car parking space in the healthcare enterprises, particularly in  The Christ Community Health Center. From the observation and interview that were made, it is noticed that parking problems are apparent concerns in medium-sized hospitals because of land pattern and lack of site off parking space in the premises. taking into account that the issue continues to become persistent, healthcare administrators need to consider leasing some land where more parking sites will be constructed so that they can meet the demand of the workforce and customers. Typically, getting off-site parking lots will help clinical businesses meet the parking demand raised by the doctors, visitors, and patients attached to the institution. Finally, intermediate firms should take the concept of car parking space as an ongoing activity that needs enlargement for the benefit of the businesses and their stakeholders.

 

Recommendations

 

In light of the research findings, the following recommendations are suggested. First, it is necessary to create a mobility parking space at Christ Community Health Center, the hospital need to consider specifying the area that is reserved for the workers and the lots set to be used by the patients/visitors. Considering the parking facilities at the Christ Community Health Center, it is recommended that the hospital should consider designing a parking garage, which is perceived more convenient than parking lots that are available now because the parking garage will be placed closer to the healthcare building. Furthermore, from observation practice, it was noted that parking at Christ Community Health Center is free, which motivates the workers to commute with their cars because they do not incur any parking charges. Thus, it is recommended that the hospital should consider charging for parking, which will be a better way to discourage people from traveling to work with their cars. Finally, the hospital can choose to reduce the parking demand by discouraging the daytime workers bringing their cars to the hospital. Although this may influence some individuals, leaders at the organizations can decide to interact with the employees on the matter of parking lots and give them the key reasons why it is important for them not to bring their vehicles to work on specific days. In essence, it can be said that the best solution for the parking problem at Christ Community Health Center is identifying what is the problem and the condition causing the issue. From this point, the management group at the premises will determine the best way to ensure that the parking issue does not impact the hospital’s operation.
