Recommendation Report on Handicap Parking Spaces
The Christ Community Health Center has extensive building work; therefore, the hospital and its facilities has been a subject of planning. In the development of the plan, the hospital’s administration needs to look for areas that need improvement in order to make the healthcare functionality more efficient in serving its clients and managing staffs. From the view of the enterprise display, one of the main branches that needs the reconstruction focus is the car parking space. Evidently, many people visit the hospital site seeking care services, and for this reason, the center should take into account the implication that current parking lots have to many people including the patients and employees. At the same time, as the hospital plans to expand its services consistently, the parking space should be in line with the manager’s strategy, as it can be a major problem for the organization if not involved in the extension plans. Hence, since parking is an essential element for private businesses, this report focuses on exploring the recommendations that were made regarding the increase in the accessible parking space at the Christ Health Community Center. The report will cover several sections with the first chapter being the background of the issue, followed by the problem statement, and purpose of the report. Finally, the research will present the methodology, conclusion, and provide some essential recommendation aimed at solving the current problem.
Background
Taking into account that many people working and visiting the healthcare centers owns vehicles, parking in local hospitals has led to a conflicting and confusing situation faced by the healthcare administrators. Based on extensive research by Hosking and Haggard (2003), the need for car parking space in the modern world continues to increase, and it has become a major problem for homegrown clinics and other private firms. In the cases a number of employees and visitors of an organization is low , the car parking spaces are designed with trellises and climbers. However, at Christ Health Community Center, the issues of increasing the parking space should be taken as a priority becuasec the current space is not enough for comfortable serving the public and staffs. Consequently, it has made the employees who have cars to park their vehicles in areas earmarked for the hospital visitors. Furthermore , due to the handicap space for parking at the hospital, patients leave their cars to the main building entrances and in parking sites reserved for the disabled drivers. Osoba (2012) argued that parking problem is faced by many private businesses and led to time delays, indiscipline acts, and the act of illegal stall at the car park. From this argument, it is noted that in firms where the parking space is inadequate, many adverse events can happen, which can negatively affect the car owners or even the premises leaders. Thus, it is evident that Christ Health Community Center should focus on resolving the problem with parking space to avoid the possible issues.
In addition, Tyler et al. (2012) posit that if the supply and availability of parking are not accommodative, it can be a major problem to the public. In this context, insufficient parking space is viewed as a barrier to many individuals as the restrained space can limit people accessing specific services offered by a particular firm. For instance, in hospital enterprises where the operation is run on a 24-hour day basis, the parking demand is based on the work timing since most of the doctors and nurses will report to work on shifts and administration on the daytime schedules. It implies that the parking space at many private or public hospitals is an issue that needs to be attended to because it can negatively influence the organizational performance and we ll-being of the people.
Problem
In this study, the focus is on a middle-sized hospital, called Christ Community Health Service (Christ Community Health Service, 2017). At the center, workers who commute by cars or ones who have vehicle rely on employer-provided parking. The organization has also set a parking site for patients, but due to the increased number of the visitors, the current space is not enough. In turn, it is jeopardizing the work of the medical facility , as some of the clients are opting to go to neighboring healthcare providers with adequate and well-designed parking. For this reason, it is the right time for the Christ Community Health Service’s leaders to become vigilant, as the issue of parking problem is likely to impair the reputation of the premises, which will lead to losing of valuable customers. According to Osoba (2012), one of the causes of the parking problem in medium-sized private businesses is the pattern of land. The location where Christ Community is situated has been eroded by the construction of the various building, which has made it difficult for the hospital to have a conventional and adequate parking space. In other words, the organization does not have an off-site parking in which patients visiting the hospital can park their car at the off-lots location if there is no space on the main site. NHS Estates (2005) reveals that it is essential for businesses to ensure that they have an off-site parking location so that users traveling to the firm can use the site for parking purposes in the case whereby the central parking site if fully occupied. Thus, it is noted that at Christ Community Health Service, the free parking area needed to be expanded by all means possible, as well as be appropriately organized, so that the spot can achieve its intended objecti ve.
Purpose Statement
The findings presented in this paper were based on the research that focused on identifying the best practices and strategies that the Community Health clinic can use to escalate the parking space that will benefit the organization, its stakeholders, and clients. The researcher identified significant recommendations that were set to help the hospital continue receiving its customers and serving people with the health care service’s needs. If the clinic implements all the recommendation successfully, the problem of parking and congestion will no longer be a predicament, and the center will effectively achieve its desired outcomes.
Research Methodology
The investigator applied both the interview and observation method of data collection. It was essential to use interview technique to collect the information as through the model, the views, experience, and beliefs of the participant were explored (Gill et al., 2008). The respondents who were involved in this research included the patients visiting the Christ Community Health Center, the staffs working in the institution, the administrators, and the people who own the facility. The queries that were presented to the interviewee were designed to ask imperative questions that were set to yield relevant information concerning the parking lots at the institution. Moreover, employing observation method in this study was substantial becauase the technique gave the surveyor an opportunity to understand a particular phenomenon from the view of the way different actors would respond to various situations (Iacono, Brown, & Holtham, 2009). In this scheme, different situations were observed, while taking notes and recording what was being witnessed. Clearly, the researcher used the two methods because they are cost efficient and highly reliable in cases of an investigation that needs evidence and factual support.
The data was obtained from the hospital’s daytime workers. For reliable information, the investigator interviewed 100 staffs and 50 patients who visit the institution frequently. The researcher has observed that the hospital has 80 parking lots, of which 20 are reserved for workers, 20 for both employees and patients or visitors, 25 for visitors/ patients, and 15 for people who are physically challenged. It showed that at the Christ Community Health Center, there are maximally 40 parking spaces available to employees, a number that is not enough for the staffs working at the premises. From the findings, it was noted that the workers occupy the space that is established to be used by the patients because they tend to arrive before the patients and visitors. In this context, the parking lots constrained for the people seeking medical services are insufficient; hence, the researcher came up with several recommendations that will help the organization solve the problem.
Conclusion
This study presents significant findings on the aspect of car parking space in the healthcare enterprises, particularly in The Christ Community Health Center. From the observation and interview that were made, it is noticed that parking problems are apparent concerns in medium-sized hospitals because of land pattern and lack of site off parking space in the premises. taking into account that the issue continues to become persistent, healthcare administrators need to consider leasing some land where more parking sites will be constructed so that they can meet the demand of the workforce and customers. Typically, getting off-site parking lots will help clinical businesses meet the parking demand raised by the doctors, visitors, and patients attached to the institution. Finally, intermediate firms should take the concept of car parking space as an ongoing activity that needs enlargement for the benefit of the businesses and their stakeholders.
Recommendations
In light of the research findings, the following recommendations are suggested. First, it is necessary to create a mobility parking space at Christ Community Health Center, the hospital need to consider specifying the area that is reserved for the workers and the lots set to be used by the patients/visitors. Considering the parking facilities at the Christ Community Health Center, it is recommended that the hospital should consider designing a parking garage, which is perceived more convenient than parking lots that are available now because the parking garage will be placed closer to the healthcare building. Furthermore, from observation practice, it was noted that parking at Christ Community Health Center is free, which motivates the workers to commute with their cars because they do not incur any parking charges. Thus, it is recommended that the hospital should consider charging for parking, which will be a better way to discourage people from traveling to work with their cars. Finally, the hospital can choose to reduce the parking demand by discouraging the daytime workers bringing their cars to the hospital. Although this may influence some individuals, leaders at the organizations can decide to interact with the employees on the matter of parking lots and give them the key reasons why it is important for them not to bring their vehicles to work on specific days. In essence, it can be said that the best solution for the parking problem at Christ Community Health Center is identifying what is the problem and the condition causing the issue. From this point, the management group at the premises will determine the best way to ensure that the parking issue does not impact the hospital’s operation.
