Assignment: Enterprise Wide Systems
Many organisations continue to seek alternatives to using internal resources to develop infrastructure, software and enterprise wide systems. In the past, outsourcing may have been the most preferable choice, but with the emergence of services such as Cloud Services and Software as a Service (SaaS), organisations have many more choices on how to build and support the enterprise type systems that need to operate in the global economy.
These types of services provide a unique opportunity for organisations to continue to expand their capabilities and capacity to support diverse needs, without requiring increased investment for internal network infrastructure, with the exception of investment to provide increased access to the network. The IT Professional is often asked to offer an opinion on the feasibility of using a cloud-based or a SaaS solution. In this Assignment, you will examine and review two types of services currently available and create a review of these services, using a set of criteria to determine the potential for use within a Small to Medium (SME) sized organisation.
To prepare for this Individual Assignment:
– Review your Weekly Learning Resources with a focus on the types of enterprise wide software services;
– Reflect upon the context of a Small-Medium (SME) organisation and the types of needs this type of organisation might have;
– Consider the network architecture typically found in SME organisations;
– Identify and research three different Cloud based or SaaS type services;
– Create a set of criteria that you would use to assess the services’ suitability for use within a SME organisation.
To complete this Individual Assignment:
Create a document in which you include the following:
– Introduction on the characteristics of the SME organisational context, providing a case example which you will use to assess the suitability of Cloud based or SaaS type services;
– A set of criteria that could be used to assess the suitability of a Cloud based or SaaS type service;
– Description of the three Cloud based or SaaS type services;
1: Summarise the general services provided;
2: Explain how each service meets the criteria you identified, and how it differs from the others. Include the merits and weaknesses of each;
3: Identify the impact on current networking infrastructure and considerations for future needs of user, access and network resource configurations.
– Your recommendation on which of the services best meets the characteristics of the SME organisation;
– Fully state and justify any choices, assumptions or claims that you make using the suggested Learning Resources for this Week and/or your own research.
