Children’s Health Final Research Project (75 points)
Students will select a topic AND target age group for their final project addressing a current issue relevant to children’s health (kindergarten – twelve grade).
Assignment: Imagine a local school invited you to be guest speaker and present a topic related to children’s health. Typically guest speakers are given the topic and age range, but for this project you will select the age and topic. PLEASE LIST THE TOPIC AND AGE IN THE TITLE OF YOUR PAPER.
A list of possible topics is available below. Research the topic and summarize in a 2500 to 3000 word paper.
A note about plagiarism: Final project paper should be written in APA style format in the students’ own words.
Part 1: Paper Guidelines and rubric (2500-3000 word length required)
- APA format (3 points)
- Title Page (2 points)
- Topic Background (5 points)
- Topic introduction: Define and describe the topic including the age range that is affected.
- Physical/emotional implications: How does this topic impact children’s health physically and/or emotionally?
- Duration: How long has this been a problem? Is it improving or getting worse? What is causing this problem to improve, worsen or remain the same?
- Community Impact (10 points)
- Prevalence: List the prevalence rate (total number of existing cases of the
disease or this condition within a given time period), whether this has increased,
decreased, or not changed over time.
- Intervention: What, if anything, is being done at community (including schools), state, and/or federal level to address this topic?
- Recommendations: What recommendations would you suggest at the school level to address this problem? Include school-wide policies and classroom instruction in your response. For example, should the teacher adapt the curriculum, classroom environment, or instructional strategies?
- Resources (10 points)

Using APA format, cite a minimum of four different references (text
book is an acceptable source). Without references, your paper is worth ZERO.
- Grammar/Punctuation (5 points)
The paper must be free of spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure errors.
The number of errors dictates the number of points deducted from your overall grade.
