International Social Welfare Analysis Paper (30% of total grade)
Students should be able to synthesize and apply knowledge of an international social welfare issue to a specific region or country of interest. The social welfare issue should be a broad issue that has broad implications for your region or country of interest. The social welfare issue can include but is not restricted to (1) HIV/AIDS, (2) femicide, (3) maternal health, (4) clean water, (5) education, etc.
The paper should include the following:
- An overview of the history of this social welfare issue (globally and locally in the region/country of interest)
- Country or regional history of legislation, political action, community or NGO action (or lack thereof) addressing this issue.
- In the past several years, how has your region or country of interest been affected by this social welfare problem?
- What are some cultural and contextual variables important in understanding this social welfare issue?
- Has this issue affected all populations (ethnic groups and/or genders, etc) similarly or were some populations affected differently? Who? How so?
- What is the current state of affairs in regards to the selected social welfare issue? What is the current response from local as well as global agencies and organizations?
- What are some important implications of this social problem if left unaddressed?
- What are some recommendations for local and global responses now and for the next few years? Which organizations might best take the lead?
The paper should be 10 double spaced pages with 12 point Times New Roman Font, APA formatted. Students are expected to use the required texts as well as at least 8-10 outside peer reviewed references from scholarly journals, and other publications.
