The Lions of Iwo Jima, Fred Haynes, book report notes:
Each book report should include four sections or paragraphs.
FIRST-should explain why the author is writing. what is the message that he is attempting to convey to the reader? what does he hope to achieve by publishing the book? Is he writing the book from a particular angle or bias?
SECOND-should contain a summary of the book. what is its basic story? how is it organized? what do the chapters cover? how does it progress, and how does it conclude?
THIRD-should analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the book in the larger context of the second world war. where is the authors writing compelling? where does it fall short? what is particularly persuasive about the book? what is missing?
FOURTH-should tie the book to the class. how does the book fit with the lectures and discussions? what does it add to our understanding of the second world war that the lectures could not or did not? how does the book tie with others you have read this semester? your book reviews will be evaluated on how well you have understood the book, as well as how you have communicated that understanding in the four sections above.

this week our lectures have been about the fall of germany in europe and then mostly about the pacific and the controversy about dropping the bomb. we also watched the end of the movie empire of the sun if that helps…thanks a bunch
