I would like to explain in detail what you can write your short paper on from the assigned project:
- COVID-19
- Racial Justice
The Covid-19 Pandemic’s Impact on racial minorities (e.g., Korean Americans) Korean/Asian American communities have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. In general, you can critically examine how Korean American lives and livelihoods have been impacted by the unprecedented pandemic variously.
You can also examine how they learned/found ways to fight the trauma.
In addition, you can focus on how Korean Americans launched a mutual aid effort to assist fellow citizens including vulnerable senior citizens.
I will list the potential research topics below:
Small Business, Work/Labor, and the Economy
-Impact on small business owners (restaurants/bars, grocery markets/liquor stores, dry cleaners, & other businesses; beauty salons, spas, massage parlors, & acupuncture; and sharing economies), disrupted by lockdown and racial stigma
-What strategies are small businesses adopting to repair from monetary losses incurred both from racial stigma specifically and macro-level economic downturn?
-Predicament of KAs in high-contact front-line and essential or personal-appearance roles
-Remote work Health
-Healthcare workers such as doctors, nurses, & paraprofessionals; immunocompromised people; and people with disabilities.
-Are there inequalities in obtaining accurate health information and time to adjust to the social distancing?
-How do undocumented KAs gain access to health services?
-Impact on physical and mental health
-Remote worshipping Education
-Remote learning
-International students, daycares, primary & secondary schools, and universities Family and Caregiving
-Parenting and care for children, care for the elderly, and paid care work.
-Impact on human interaction (e.g., Family relations)
Online Spaces
-Social media, dating websites, and news media.
-Screen fatigue
The pandemic has exacerbated anti-Asian racism and xenophobia.

Community based organizations (nonprofits, grassroots & activist organizations, and religious organizations)

-Strategies and mechanisms of resistance to the pandemic and ensuing acts of racism
-Activist organizations, joining housing justice advocates and demanding “rent cancellations or a moratorium on evictions”
